MY RUNS fixed. »

I had to totally re-write it.  I’m done with Nike+, everything is now coming off of Runkeeper.  Of course Runkeeper does not publish, nor document, an API, so I had to figure it out myself.  It works…..at least until Runkeeper changes something.

It is more accurate now as Runkeeper is based on the iPhone’s GPS as opposed to the Nike+ pedometer.  I only started using Runkeeper around February of this year, so the transition was complicated by the fact that I had to keep the old Nike+ data around in order to have the correct history.

Less than 2 weeks till Muddy Buddy! »

As the title says, there is less than 2 weeks till Muddy Buddy, Chicago.  I’ve been running some, not enough, but some.  Today was my first Muddy Buddy-type workout.  Rode my bike 2.5 miles, ran 2 miles, and rode my bike another 2.5 miles.  Now if I can do that every day for the next 2 weeks, I might be alright!

Back from the Bahamas.  Great time, great weather, great food, great resort, less than great gambling.

What happened to firehole? »

If you’re reading this you might have noticed that firehole was offline all weekend. This is what happened:

(Saturday 9:15 pm, U.S. Pacific time):

When the recent incident occurred it caused an explosion and fire that knocked down three walls surrounding our electrical equipment room. Apparently the transformer was very close to our facility as this event also started an electrical fire within our data center’s electrical equipment room. Thankfully, no one was injured. In addition, no servers were damaged or lost.

We have only recently been allowed into the building to physically inspect the damage. Early indications are that the incident led to a short in a high-volume wire conduit. We were not allowed to activate our backup generator plan based on instructions from the fire department.

This is a significant outage, impacting hundreds of LinkSky hosted accounts. All members of our data center team are in, and all vendors who supply us with data center equipment are on site. Our initial assessment, although early, points to being able to have some service restored by mid-afternoon on Sunday. Rest assured we are working around the clock.

I am sorry that this accident has occurred and I apologize for the impact.

Ouch! Anybody that works in technology knows that this is your worst nightmare. Although being offline for 48 hours is not good, it could have been worse. I will say that Linksky kept everybody informed and appeared to work around the clock to rectify the situation.

Ok, it’s kind of done. I still need to add captions on the pictures when they’re expanded, but besides that it’s done. John’s commentary included.

Check it out by selecting “Glacier Roadtrip II, 2003″ from the Trip Reports on the left.  Let me know if you have any problems because I haven’t tested it in all browsers.
